When I was a child, I always wondered, what is the true essence of Christmas? Do we have to celebrate it in a very grand celebration? But when I was older, I finally understood that Christmas does not necessarily have to be celebrated lavishly. Christmas is the season for sharing love, forgiveness, and care. What's important is we share those happy moments with our loved ones.

We can feel now the December cold breeze, and the yuletide season is fast approaching. We Filipinos traditionally celebrate Christmas every 25th of December, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of ber-months, we usually decorate our houses with Christmas trees, Christmas lights, and Christmas "parols." C
hristmas songs are played on radios and Christmas carolings, usually by "kabataan" every hour. We are always excited to attend the Misa de Gallo, completing the nine mornings, and have simple salu-salo with my family when the clock strikes at midnight. But today's pandemic brought a difference in how we're celebrating Christmas by following protocols for our mutual safety. Yet, we Filipinos are still intact with our traditions and the true essence of Christmas.

We Filipinos dearly love our family, no matter what happens and how far each other, we always find ways to reconnect and, Christmas is one of the best to spend and value our time. Being together with our family is showing love to each other. And your presence of affection means you are forgiving. Forgiving is a loving family to togetherness. Because we can only achieve peace, happiness, and true love through forgiveness, no matter what the situation is. No pandemic can halt the spreading of love and forgiveness to have a family togetherness.

Hey there, I just read your post and completely agree with you! It is certainly true that even this pandemic should not prevent the real spirit of Christmas from being cherished.
